Shell Water Detector
USADO
PARA DETECTAR ÁGUA NÃO DISSOLVIDA FINAMENTE DISPERSA EM JET A-1 /
QAV-1.
FORNECE UMA
INDICAÇÃO POR COLORAÇÃO
QUANTO A PRESENÇA DE ÁGUA MESMO COM NÍVEIS DE CONCENTRAÇÃO ABAIXO DE 30 PPM
Procedimento
de Teste
- Examine
a capsula. Confirme cor amarela uniforme do papel.
- Coloque
a capsula na seringa.
- Inserir
seringa

USED
FOR DETECTING FINELY DISPERSED UNDISSOLVED WATER IN JET FUEL. A
DISTINCT RESPONSE IS GIVEN FROM
LEVELS BELOW 30 P.P.M.
Test
Procedure
- Examine
capsule. Confirm uniform yellow paper colour.
- Fit
detector capsule to syringe.
- Immerse
capsule and approximately half of syringe in sample.
- Draw
exactly 5ml. through capsule.
- Examine
capsule for colour difference.
- A
distinctive or mottled green colour gives positive indication of
water contamination.
- If
fail, on inlet side advise supervisory staff, and take fresh sample
from outlet side of filter.
- If
fail, advise aircraft representative immediately.

The
Shell Water Detector is a device for determining the presence of
finely dispersed undissolved water in jet fuels at concentrations
lower than those normally detectable by visual examination. Water
dispersions of this type can result from the emulsification of a
water/fuel mixture during pumping or from precipitation of dissolved
water due to a fall in fuel temperature.
Why
is it important to use the Shell Water Detector?
Ensuring
that jet fuels are free from dispersed or free water is a crucial
part of the quality assurance process. All jet fuels contain some
dissolved water which invariably comes out of solution as the fuel
cools during high altitude flights. Aircraft fuel systems are
designed to deal with these trace amounts and normally no
operational problems are encountered. In addition to this dissolved
water, jet fuels can contain significant levels of dispersed water.
The
Shell Water Detector is a reliable, convenient and cost effective
means to verify that the concentration of this dispersed water is
below the IATA recommended limit of 30ppm.
If
higher levels of water are loaded with jet fuel it is possible that
aircraft safety could be compromised
Because
the fuel systems are not designed to handle unusually high levels.
On aircraft many systems, such as engines, are duplicated or even
triplicated for safety reasons. There is however usually only one
supply of jet fuel. Consequently, if there was anything wrong with
the fuel it could cause catastrophic results. It is therefore
essential that only clean, dry, on-specification fuel is delivered
on to aircraft.
The
Shell Water Detector is one of many products developed by Shell for
the aviation industry. Shell has been closely associated with the
development of oils greases and fluids for aircraft applications
since the earliest days of aviation. Today, the AeroShell brand name
is one of the best known within the aviation industry. Shell has
developed products to meet every significant engine and airframe
requirement for lubricants, and the range continues to be extended
to meet the performance needs of tomorrow's aircraft.
